Graves-Hume Public Library strives to serve the community as an informational, recreational, and cultural agency, providing educational resources, recreational needs through print and non-print materials, and distinctive programming.  The library offers an environment which enhances individual and community life by providing the resources and services needed by our diverse community.

Our Services to You

Your Library Card

 Did you know your Graves-Hume Public library card can be used at other libraries also?  If you are free of fines or overdue books, you may use your library caard at almost any library in the state that offers reciprocal borrowing privileges!  The loaning library borrowing policies must be followed.  Restrictions may apply to certain cardholders.

Interlibrary Loan

If we do not have the item you would like to borrow we may be able to get it from another library. Graves-Hume Public Library is part of the Reaching Across Illinois Library system.  We have access to the collectons of over 376 libraries!

Computers / Internet Use

 Graves-Hume Library has eight computer terminals with Internet access available for patrons use!  The Internet allows users to connect to networks of resources outside the library.  Graves-Hume Public Library has no control over these resources nor does the library have complete knowledge of what is on the Internet.  Information on the Internet may be reliable and current or it may be erroneous, out-of-date, illegal, offensive, controversial, or unavailable at times.  Library users access the Internet at their own discretion.  Staff will assist patrons as time permits, but cannot offer personal instruction.

All computer users will be asked to agree with our computer policy each time they log on to a computer.  Prior to use of the library's computer systems, one needs to register at the front desk.  Anyone not registered at the desk will be asked to leave immediately.  Computer users will be asked to present a photo I.D. or library card.  Patrons with overdue materials/fines will be asked to clear these up before they may use the computers.

Computer time is limited to one session of one hour  at a time unless no one is waiting. Patrons may use an additional session, with a maximum usage of two sessions per day. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the library staff.  Computer use is free, printing is not.  The cost of printouts is 25 cents per page for black and white, $1.00 for color.  Patrons are responsible for paying for what they print.  Costs are subject to change.

Children 17 and under must have a computer agreement signed by a parent or guardian, on file before they will be allowed to use the computers.

Children under the age of 10 must always be accompanied by a parent or guardian while using the computers. 

Failure to adhere to library computer use rules will result in a one month loss of computer privileges for a first offense and permanent suspension of computer privileges for any additional offense.

Photocopies and Fax Machines

 A copier is available for patron use.  Copies are 25 cents each.

A fax machine is available.  Faxes sent to locations inside the United States are $1.00 per page.  Faxes may also be received at $1.00 per page.  Graves-Hume fax number:  815-538-3816

Library Policies

Below are some of the policies about the public's use of the library.

Behavior in the Library

Food and drink shall not be permitted in the public areas of the library during regular hours.  No smoking or sleeping will be permitted in the library, or on the premises, at any time. 

Shirt and shoes must be worn in the library.  In addition, extreme exceptions to generally acceptable standards of dress and personal hygiene shall not be permitted.  The use of skates or rollerblades will not be permitted on the premises.

Loitering, loud noise , or any behavior that disturbs other patrons or staff will not be permitted.

Cell phones may be used in the library foyer only.

Behavior which violates the Criminal Code of the State of Illinois is prohibited.

Pets or other animals, except those trained to assist the disabled or those which are part of the library, or a library sponsored program, shall not be permitted in the library.

Anyone violating the Rules and Regulations of the library shall be subject to one or more of the following penalties:

a. verbal warning

b. ejection from the premises

c. suspension of library privileges

d. revocation of library privileges

e. prosecution subject to the Criminal Code of the State of Illinois

Circulation Policy

The loan of library materials is subject to varing terms and restrictions and fines will be charged if borrowers do not comphy with them.

Computer/Internet Use

Computer resources are provided for use by the patrons of Graves-Hume Public Library.  Internet access is also available on selected public terminals.

Graves-Hume Public Library requires that library patrons using electronic information networks such as the Internet do so within the guidelines of acceptable use.  The following activities are unacceptable:

  1. Use of electronic information networks for any purpose which is offensive in a public setting, or resulst in the harrassment of other users.

  2. Destruction of , damage to, or unauthourized alteration of the library's computer equipment, software, or network security procedures.

  3. Use of electronic information networks in any way which violates a Federal or State law.

  4. Use of electronic information networks in any way which violates licensing and payment agreements between this library and network/database providers.

  5. Unauthorized duplication of copy protected software or violation of software license agreements.

  6. Violation of system security

  7. Behavior that is disruptive to others.

Users must accept computer use policy each time they log onto public access computers.  Children under the age of 18 must have an agreement form signed by a  parent or legal guardian that acknowledges permission to use the computers as long as all rules are followed.

Users must register at the front desk.  A library card or photo ID must be presented. Patrons with overdue materials and/or fines must clear these up before they may use the computers

Patrons under the age of 10 must always be accompanied by a parent or guardian while using the library computers.  Children 10 and older may use the computers with a signed parental permission contract.

Only 2 patrons are allowed at a terminal at one time.  Both patrons must be registered at the desk.

Graves-Hume Library makes no guarantees with respect to any equipment, programs, or other library material, their quality, performance, or fitness for any particular purpose.  All materials and equipment are given for use "as is".

Donations

The library encourages and accepts gifts with the understanding that gifts or materials will be added to the collection only if they meet the same standards required of purchased materials.  Gift materials not meeting those standards, those that are out-of-date, unneeded duplicates of items already owned, or those in a format unsuitable for library use, may be given to other organizations, sold, exchanged or recycled.

Any gift, memorial, or bequest which is given with conditions or stipulations as to its use or placement will be accepted only if the library Board can agree to all conditions and stipulations.

Unattended Children

Children age 6 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times in the library.
